Azzurra Trattoria – June 24, 2013

Azzurra, Azzurra…wish we’d found you earlier! It’s not that we didn’t think Azzurra would be great. We’d had so many requests to take Let’s Eat! there, and so many people choose Azzurra Trattoria as their favourite restaurant in Collingwood. All the positive reviews were out there, but we simply hadn’t made our way there yet. We’re sending out a huge THANK YOU to all of you who bugged us to hold a Let’s Eat! event at Azzurra. Before we even get to talking about the food, we have to talk about the atmosphere at Azzurra. The restaurant and patio were renovated not too long ago, and the decor is simple, comfortable, and inviting. But we believe it’s the people at Azzurra who really set that welcoming tone. The owner, Andrea, has such a warm and calm demeanour, that it seems like she’s hosting friends and family, not just customers. And her staff members follow suit. The servers all appear to really enjoy being there, talking with customers, answering questions about the menu, and giving fantastic service. So before we even had a bit to eat, we were happy.

Enter Chef Leona! If only we could bring her home to our kitchen. We truly loved every bite of our food, and were surprised how familiar dishes could be so amazing with Leona’s twist on them. Wouldn’t have thought of pea ravioli, but it’s something I would order again. The sweet potato gnocchi is absolutely outstanding – mouthwatering. All the Let’s Eat! guests were raving about it. YUM! We also had two great salads. The first was mixed greens, rhubarb, walnuts, and quinoa and the second was arugula, shaved fennel, and parm, with lemon dressing. And then there were the mains. So delicious and cooked to perfection. We had roasted pork tenderloin, pan seared trout, and seasonal vegetables. The words don’t compare to the flavours. We finished with a delicious strawberry crumble. We were pretty full by then, but we made room for it because it was such a treat.

Thanks Andrea, Leona, and staff for a fantastic evening. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
