Cabin Bistro – August 27th & 28th, 2012
Once again, the restaurant is small, but the interest in dining here is anything but. We had so many people reply to our invitation to the Let’s Eat! event at Cabin Bistro, that even after adding a second night in order to accommodate more people, we still had to turn a handful of guests away. We love filling the restaurants for the owners and chefs who show us such amazing hospitality, but we really feel badly when we can’t include everyone. We apologize to those who couldn’t get in, and hope you’ll try Cabin on your own sometime soon. Also, thanks to everyone who agreed to move to the second night so that we could accommodate other guests — you guys are an awesome bunch!
Owner and chef, Justin Miller, is truly a creative genius! We love that he uses lots of local and organic ingredients in his food, and his passion for creating interesting flavours for his diners is obvious. He started us off with organic heirloom tomato bruschetta, which was lovely. He followed it with the most kick-ass lobster bisque most of us had ever tasted. Seriously. The bisque was a tough act to follow, but the mac and cheese with black truffle oil hit the spot. Now how can we possibly describe the pork belly with quail egg, served on a leek pancake. It was unexpected, somewhere between beautiful and cute, and a fantastic combination of flavours and texture. Loved it! The dark chocolate mousse topped it all off perfectly.
Justin, we can’t wait to come back again!
