SiSi Trattoria – June 18th, 2014

New management, new chef, new feeling. WOW! SiSi’s did not disappoint! If you’ve been to SiSi’s in the past, and you think you know this restaurant, please think again.

The team at SiSi’s welcomed 41 Let’s Eat! guests into their restaurant last night to introduce us to their new personality and menu. As is typical for Let’s Eat! events, we started with drinks and passed apps, both at the indoor bar and at the patio bar. The enclosure of the patio and the patio heaters protected us from the fog and cooler weather that rolled in that evening. It’s a unique and beautiful patio, so we were all happy to be out there.

Something I noticed while on the patio was that a guest casually mentioned she’s a vegetarian. Moments later, Manager Cassie was there to offer alternatives to meat for the guest’s meal. Previous to that, Cassie had explained to a different guest what she would serve to accommodate this guest’s gluten-free diet. It’s this kind of personal attention that makes guests feel so valued and cared for, and I suspect this kind of sincere hospitality is a trademark of Cassie. I know these two guests appreciated it, and I appreciated seeing our guests so well looked after.

As you can gather, things were looking great, even before our outstanding meal was served. Our guests were surprised to learn that we’d be having everything listed on the menus in front of us, because there were 5 courses, after the passed appetizers! Tomato & Buffalo Mozzarella, and Mushroom & Taleggio Scarpinocc started us off. Both were delicious, but I personally savoured the mushroom ravioli, against my gluten-free norm. Our entrees were Kolapore Rainbow Trout, served with beets that actually rivalled the trout in flavour. Next was hanger steak. Let me tell you, these steaks could not have been more perfect! Charred around the outside, perfectly pink inside, and tender – all 41 of them!!! Props to Chef Nick on making 41 absolutely perfect steaks. (I’m lucky if I can pull off 1 perfect steak!)

Finally, the desert was the perfect ending to our meal. We had a gelato taster plate! Adorable little scoops of four flavours: pistachio, sour cream lemon zest, raspberry, and mango. Everyone had a different favourite. Raspberry for me!

A huge thank you to everyone at SiSi’s for your wonderful hospitality, service, and fabulous food.
