Stuffed Peasant – April 30th & May 1st, 2012

The Stuffed Peasant is a small, cosy restaurant on Hurontario Street, that wasn’t really on our radar. Since our kids are so young, we tend to make it to restaurants for lunch, rather than dinner, and The Peasant serves dinner only. Luckily for us, new friends, the Rotenbergs ( raved about it when we were at their place for lunch one day. So we knew we had to try it. Not only did we fall in love with the food, but we  also felt an immediate connection to the owner/chef, Scott Carter. It’s obvious he loves what he does, and we love that he comes out to chat with his guests and check in on his meals. Scott has also been genius about hiring a fantastic, professional, and fun service staff, who always make sure guests are well looked after.

Since The Stuffed Peasant only seats 30 guests at a time, and we had such a huge number of people wanting to attend the Let’s Eat! event there, we decided to do two nights, back to back. After appetizers and salads, on a large dinner plate, Scott served small portions of numerous items from his menu. I can’t even explain how delicious each bite was! Even the fries…how does he get a simple potato to taste so damned good!? I don’t know, but they went fantastic with the muscles, duck, steak, port ribs, and so on. This is comfort food — only better.

In some ways, this particular event has changed the way we look at Let’s Eat! It’s more and more clear to us that we aren’t the only people who love this event. Jeff Shearer, owner of On the Bay magazine is excited enough about it to have sent one of his photographers and one of his writers to The Stuffed Peasant, in order to write an article about it. That kind of ups the excitement level for us too!
